North Jersey Chapter Scholarship Winners
2010 Memorial Scholarship Winners
This year the North Jersey 99’s awarded three scholarships, The Dodie Riach Scholarship, The Lillien Ziemba Scholarship and the Art Leidenfrost Scholarship.
The Dodie Riach Scholarship, was first awarded in 1996. Dodie and her son David perished in his Piper Dakota as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning from a large hole in the exhaust system.
Our member, Cathy Vajtay is the winner of the Dodie Riach Scholarship. Her ultimate goal is to become a CFI and share her passion for the sky. Cathy is an active member of the North Jersey 99’s, she is our Secretary and handles all our Advertizing and Publications.
Christopher Machado is the winner of the Lillien Ziemba Scholarship, Olivia Brino is the winner of the Art Leidenfrost Scholarship. Both are high school seniors and are planning on attending college in September. Chris is a member of the Aviation Explorer Post since the age of 14 and he is preparing for his check ride. Olivia is also an Aviation Explorer, member of the EAA Chapter 501, Women in Aviation and the North Jersey 99’s. Olivia has soloed and passed her written exam . She will also be featured in the January issue of Girls with Wings, which is a program that mentors young girls.
The Memorial scholarships would not be available if it were not for the generosity of other pilots, people in aviation, and the general public, who not only donate privately, but also through the support of our annual fund raisers. Thank you everyone for your generosity over the years in giving what you can to the scholarship fund. Without you, these three people, and all the other recipients, would not have been able to live their dreams!
